The Mission Field: Highlights of being a Catholic Part 1

 God bless you friends!

As a first blog post I thought it would be a fun idea to get out on the mission field (aka talk to some young Catholics) and ask them what their favorite parts of being a Catholic were. Here are our answers! Hope you enjoy!!

So, what is your favorite part about being a Catholic?

"My favorite part of being Catholic is the community. The people that I get to spend time with and hang out with are so great and being able to ask questions and turn to them for help is such a blessing. I've met so many amazing people through Catholic youth groups and co-ops and I love that there is still so much for me to learn even though I've been raised Catholic"

"I love the rich Catholic history we have, and the way Catholicism has shaped world history. Sacred art, sacred music, the liturgy. And I love Catholic community. Also I’m giving a different answer than the obvious answer to this question of salvation, knowing our Creator, true happiness, etc. But that answer too"

"My favorite thing about being Catholic is how beautiful and meaningful the holy mass is. I love going to daily and Sunday mass and receiving the Holy Eucharist. I absolutely love how it's so powerful that Christ is truly present at all Catholic churches, and that I'm so blessed to receive Him. Also, the Catholic communities all over the world are just so extraordinary! I love meeting people who are on fire with love for Jesus and being a part of Christ's mission to spread faith, love, and truth!"

"Just knowing I can trust in God completely, and I'm not on my own. Being Catholic comes with a great amount of peace, no matter what comes my way I know I have so much to look forward to because God is right beside me. I'm grateful to have been raised knowing the truth of the world and the life that's waiting for me after this one."

"Knowing that in spite of every person who turns me away, says something hateful, disrespects me, acts as if I'm worthless, I am loved, and I have an end, and that being happy is a possibility."

"I love everything about it but especially the sacraments. every week i look forward to mass so i can receive Jesus in the Eucharist. Also the catholic community is just so amazing i know that whatever im going through i alwasy have so many people who are more then happy to pray for me and be there for me. And just all the catholic teachings are so incredible and something you know you can rely on to be true even when everything else is changing and seems to be falling apart you can know you always have the faith and God to be with you along with so many other people that then again leads to that amazing community i mentioned before"

"Having Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, and having hope in a world that lacks hope."

"Ok, so the first one is that I love the community, not just my peers (who are very kind and trying to be the best version of themselves) but strong, loving Catholic women who are mentor figures to me. Who I know I could rely on for advice and mentorship. And the second one is that when you're Catholic you can find a reason to celebrate. We have Christmas, Easter, All Saints, Fat Tuesday, Three Kings Day, Assumption of Mary, Candle mass, and so many more like saints feast days. If you wanted you could probably find a reason to party every week. And I have to say Catholics are probably some of the best people to party with. When Jesus said rejoice and be glad we knew what to do."

"I was born and raised Catholic which I am incredibly grateful for. And I think the ways in which one can love being Catholic are endless. I love the history, and how it shaped the mind and contributed to so much of the knowledge we have today both in the Christian and Secular. I love that we have an almost governmental form with a visible head of the Church, the pope, and how God has allowed him to be able to teach infallibly when it comes to faith and morals,  which allows us to know the truth. I love that we have a firm foundation, that since the beginning, we have faced persecution after persecution after persecution both spiritually and physically. And yet, after everything, we are still here and have done nothing but grow. This also shows that there is a greater force protecting the church and it cannot be taken out by human power. I love how we teach using both scripture and tradition and not solely from one source. The resources the church gives are absolutely wonderful in such a way that we can gain a wonderful explanation and clear understanding of WHAT the church is, WHY it was founded, WHO it was founded by, and each and every aspect of the Church. We have the Catechism which teaches infallibly on the doctrines and teachings of the church. We have a firm structure and teachings. I love that the word Catholic means Universal. The Catholic Church is not defined by specific countries, cultures, groups of people or languages. It is a Church for the universal world, for everyone, every group, every people, and every language. And the goal is to get each individual person to heaven.I love that we have the Mass and the Sacraments. In the Mass, the bread and wine becomes the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ through transubstantiation and he is made truly present. That at each and every mass we get to receive his body and become a tabernacle, fully united which Christ. I love that we have the Sacraments which can heal us, fill us with grace, and help us grow closer to God and lead us to heaven. I love that we have saints who can pray for us, intercede for us, and help lead us to God, and especially that there is Mary, the Virgin Mother of God. The feasts remind us throughout the Year that God should be the center of our lives. Easter, Lent, Advent, Christmas, Saint Days, and so so much more!I especially love how on fire the church STILL is after being founded in 33 AD! It's amazing!!I know this is incredibly long, but really I could have gone on for twice this length and longer. The Catholic Church is incredible. The history, the life, the teachings, the foundation, every aspect is remarkable."
